Umurage Communication for Development, in collaboration with RBC Rwanda, conducted a community awareness campaign aimed at encouraging both parents to actively participate in vaccinating their children and in preventing the spread of M.pox (Monkeypox).


The campaign took place in Nyamagabe District, Mugina Sector on July 9, 2025, and continued in Kamonyi District, Gasaka Sector on July10, 2025.
During the campaign, various educational sessions were held to inform the public about the importance of vaccination and the dangers that arise when individuals, especially children, are not fully vaccinated. Additionally, the community was reminded about M.pox prevention measures and urged to maintain proper hygiene as a key strategy to fight the disease.


Actors from the Umurage radio drama delivered key messages through live sketch performances. They reminded the community about common vaccine-preventable diseases such as polio, measles, tetanus, and others. They also highlighted the symptoms of M.pox

The community was further educated on how Mpox is transmitted, including through sharing clothes with an infected person, engaging in sexual intercourse, whether protected or unprotected, handshakes, kissing, and Touching contaminated items such as bedding and surfaces used by someone with Mpox..
Residents from Gasaka and Kibumbwe sectors of Nyamagabe District, as well as those from Mugina and Nyamiyaga sectors of Kamonyi District, enthusiastically participated in the campaign activities and were highly engaged by the performances of the Umurage drama team.
