September 28, 2017 Umurage Communication for Development concluded a four day road show campaign to promote umurage drama. The four road show campaigns were held in Nyagatare, Kirehe, Gatsibo and Kayonza districts respectively.
This is a continuous outreach initiative to raise the local community’s awareness on the Umurage radio serial drama on issues like child protection, Gender Based Violence, nutrition, reproductive health and family planning.
The eastern province road shows attracted over 1,000 local residents; as each stop over strategically targeted a market day.
Besides the live drama performances, the road shows are characterized by awarding prizes to local residents who prove to be regular listeners through answering questions related to the messages delivered through umurage drama.
Rachel Uwamahoro is one of the residents in Kabarondo (kayonza district). She expressed how messages in the drama bring harmony among married couples and added that she will be a good listener up to the end. Rachel was among the lucky winners of radio receivers, always given as prizes to best performers as regards to knowledge about messages in the umurage drama during the road shows.
