As part of efforts to explore young talent at the grassroots level, the Umurage Communication for Development (UmC) will conduct a talent detection campaign from November 06th to 17th, 2017.
The auditions will be conducted in the following domaines: drama acting (group acting or a one man show featuring a comedian or actor), poem recitation and music competitions (singing & dancing). There are awards organized for best performers in each category at the finals.
Contestants shall be required to work around themes portrayed in the umurage radio drama while making their compositions. The themes include; child protection, fighting Gender Based Violence (GBV), reproductive Health, nutrition and family planning.
Preliminary auditions will be conducted in youth centers located in Huye, Ngoma, Rubavu, and Kigali. Auditions in Huye will be held on November 06, Ngoma on 08th , Kabuga youth centre 10th , youth friendly centre in Rubavu on 13th , Kimisagara Youth center on 15th and a grand finale still at Kimisagara youth centre respectively.
UmC intends to explore for youth between 15 and 30 years of age encouraging them to build their talents for future benefit or possible support. Each venue for auditions targets around 50 competitors in the set categories.
Major expectations from this activity include having competitors well equipped with strong knowledge about drama and entertainment, increased knowledge in the area of child protection, reproductive health, nutrition GBV and family planning, ability to improve on their respective talents, based on lessons learnt through auditions and sharing experience with experts in drama & entertainment.
